MORE THAN JUST AN ARTIST

The work and projects that Kayla participates in stem from her passions. These projects range from environmental issues, injustice concerns, and advocacy for minorities. Below are some examples of projects she volunteered in 2023.

6,000 MILES

CalWild documentary - Wild and Scenic Film Festival 2024

Produced by CalWild and Colorfool Films in partnership with American Whitewater, 6,000 Miles showcases the deep connection between our rivers and the advocacy needed to save them –featuring NorCal paddler Kayla Lopez as she explores her "soul river" in the Trinity and the tireless work of CalWild's Steve Evans in leading the Wild Rivers Project to designate thousands of miles of new wild rivers in California. Featuring U.S. Congressman Jared Huffman and his work to protect rivers through the Northwest California Wilderness Recreation, and Working Forests Act.

DIVERSIFY WHITEWATER

Event Organizer, Creative Director, Board Member

Kayla has been a volunteer with Diversify Whitewater since 2020. She works with 2 other women across the nation to run the nonprofit organization; she's helped with all the creative design and development. She created the website and 3 years of graphics for events nation wide! 
In 2023, she was the Event Organizer for the first Trinity River Event in her local area. There was over 40 attendees of tribal youth, BIPOC affiliated and allies. 
She also participated in a cross marketing campaign with NRS and Chaco; redesigning the logo to fit on a pair of Chacos. She also guided a group down the Rogue River (class IV) for a Chaco Photoshoot.
